Native to North Africa and southern Europe, Love-in-a-mist is a small to medium-sized plant that grows upright. It is usually 38 to 61 cm high and up to 31 cm wide when not crowded. Love-in-a-mist has fine, bright green leaves that are similar to dill leaves.
The flower has light-green, finely divided threadlike bracts that surround the flowers. The flowers come in cool shades of white, blue, pink and purple.
Love-in-a-mist stands out as a cut flower. Its horned, pod-shaped seed heads are perfect in fresh or dried arrangements. In the language of flowers, sending love-in-a-mist means perplexity, ‘you puzzle me,’ ‘openness to love’ and ‘kiss me’.
