Chocolate cosmos is one of the top 10 rarest flowers in the world. This plant is native to Mexico and prefers warm climates. It features a fleshy tuberous root and typically blooms during the summer months into the early autumn. The flowers are reddish-brown to deep chocolate with a central raised area. The centre of the flower forms a cluster and opens into the traditional cosmos shape.
The flower has velvety petals and releases a vanillin scent similar to a chocolate bar. Chocolate cosmos blooms best during the evening, the same the fragrance of chocolate becomes more noticeable. However, it is important to note this flower is not edible.
