Calla lilies, though not a true lily, are beautiful blooming beauties that grow during the late spring. These distinctive flowers come in shades of white, yellow, orange, pink, rose, lavender and dark maroon. White varieties are favourite for weddings.
Calla lilies have smooth, long, sword-like leaves decorated with white freckles. The plant grows between 30 cm to a metre. Calla lily roots are also poisonous.
The word Calla comes from the Greek word that means beautiful. Calla lilies symbolise magnificence, beauty, purity and innocence which is why they are mostly used in weddings.
