Known as the Peruvian Lily or Lily of the Incas, Alstroemeria is named after Claus von Alstromer, the Swedish baron who brought the seeds back to Europe in the mid-1700s. Alstroemeria has upside-down leaves and brightly coloured blooms. It is also widely recognised for the dark markings in the trumpet-shaped heads and yellow throats.
Alstroemeria features a variety of colours. These colours are white, yellow, red, orange, purple and pink, and the petals can have contrasting colour patterns. Alstroemeria symbolises friendship. However, each petal of the Alstroemeria flower supposedly signifies a unique characteristic which are understanding, humour, patience, empathy, commitment and respect.
